What is Macaroni Tubing?
Macaroni tubing is Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) which is used in the production of oil and gas. Macaroni tubing is useful in workovers, injections, and several other applications. It is a part of the macaroni tubing string. Macaroni tubing strings are small diameter strings attached on the outside of the tubing. It is useful for placing inhibitors and other chemicals down hole. They are run in the wells for the production of oil and gas by a method known as the artificial gas lift. Macaroni tubing is conducted in oil wells which have ceased to flow because of the exhausted life of the well.

Macaroni tubing is small diameter tubing which needs to be manufactured as per the specifications laid down by API (American Petroleum Institute) 5CT standards. The available Macaroni Tubing Sizes are:
- 1” (1.315” OD)
- 1 ¼” (1.66” OD)
- 1 ½” (1.90”OD)
- 2 1/16” OD

Macaroni Tubing String
During the process of artificial gas lift, Macaroni Tubing string is run inside the production tubing string, creating increased pressure inside the well and forcing the high pressure gas to flow out through the macaroni string. Macaroni tubing plays a key role in the artificial lift process, as the tubing needs to be strong and sturdy enough to withstand various extensive forces applied during this process. Macaroni tubing are manufactured using seamless steel; generally Integral Joint (IJ) tubing is preferred. There are some instances where External Upset End (EUE) tubing with coupling is also used.
